Encounter killing is a term used in India and various other countries, to describe extrajudicial killings(execution of criminals without the lawful authority granted by the court) by the police or the armed forces, supposedly in self-defence, when they encounter suspected gangsters or terrorists in a shootout situation. In many of the encounters, police officials have been found on the wrong side of the law either by a commission or a court. However, in such killings, sometimes even police officers have had to sacrificed their lives. Yet, It is not the duty of the police officers to kill the accused merely because he is a dreaded criminal. Undoubtedly, the police have to arrest the accused and put them on trial but encounter killing is not a solution to the increasing crimes in the society. What is your opinion? Lets Discuss.
